Info Ibiza: San Antonio

San Antonio

Holidays in San Antonio are fun packed with lots of different things to do and see.Holiday apartments and villas in this town are by far the most popular choice for English tourists.

The second largest town in Ibiza, San Antonio was originally called Portus Magnus by the Romans. Now it's full title is Sant Antoni de Portmany (in Catalan) or San Antonio Abad (In Spanish).

Although known commonly for its buzzing nightlife, by day there are many different activities such as scuba diving, boat hire, shopping, amusements and rides or just relaxing on the sandy beach. There are some of finest restaurants in Ibiza here, serving many different types of international cuisine, with prices ranging from very cheap to indulgently expensive.

The resort attracts mostly English holiday makers, the high season months of July and August bring an energetic young clubbing crowd and in the low season months of May, June, September and October you will see more families enjoying San Antonio's many goings-on in a more peaceful environment.

The town has an array of different Bars located mainly on; 'the west end' - a section right in the centre of the town, which at night is brimming with excited young people, dancing and having fun; the 'sunset strip' - a selection of famous chilled out bars and restaurants where each evening many people gather to watch the ibizan sunset; The bars along the waterfront are also lively, but attract a slightly different crowd to the west end - you might see live bands held here in the summer, the clubs Eden and Es Paradis are located here as well.

San Antonio offers a large selection of holiday accommodation ranging from Luxury Ibiza Villas set in the countryside near by, to cheap holiday apartments right in the centre of the action.

Around to the other side of San Antonio bay is Port Des Torrent or 'the bay' as it's commonly known. More pubs; restaurants; entertainment bars with live music, karaoke, bingo, comedians and discos; amusements, rides and games; gift shops; supermarkets; cheap holiday accommodation and another sandy beach, are located here.

Included in the San Antonio region there is:

Santa Ines

Situated to the north of San Antonio this small rural village is one of Ibiza's finest. Santa Ines (or Sant Agnes in Catalan) is completely un-touched by tourism and remains in its full original beauty.

Just one small shop, and a couple of busy bar/restaurants centred round a large church, makes up the town centre. It is the countryside around you though that is really breathtaking; the area is completely covered in Almond trees for miles and miles, and late winter, early spring the trees blossom and people come from all over to see the amazing sight. On the night of the full moon in February, the almond blossom reflects off the white moonlight and glistens beautifully, and as the blossom falls it looks like a light snow is falling - a truly magical experience.

You will often see holiday makers and locals taking walks around Santa Ines in all the months of the year, there are many secret cliff hikes, which seem impassable, but take you into some breathtaking views and crystal clear waters. There are caves along the cliff edge to be discovered and hundreds of different wild herbs and plants growing naturally along the way.

Ibiza Villas in Santa Ines can be rural and very peaceful, often with spectacular views.

Cala Gracio and Cala Gracionetta

The names of these two sister beaches when translated into English mean 'Pretty beach' and 'Pretty little beach' a name that suits them perfectly. Located 1km from San Antonio, Cala Gracio is a large sandy beach which keeps its quaint charm because it is not very wide, but it's very long and stretches back 100 metres from the sea, there are two restaurants on the beach and an interesting shop where you can also have a thai massage.

Taking the short path over some rocks to the right (or swimming around if you prefer!) leads you to Cala Gracionetta a very small sandy beach with a beautiful view and a restaurant serving good food. The two bays are set back quite far so the rocks to the sides frame the view you have in a picture postcard way. Nestled at the southern end of Cala Gracio in an old smugglers cove, is the Aquarium Cap Blanc, which is home to a variety of Mediterranean sea life.

The beaches are safe for children and in the summer they are busy with all types of holiday makers, swimming and topping up their tan.

San Rafael

Located half way between Ibiza town and San Antonio in the heart of the Island, this busy village offers a range of shops, supermarkets, bakery and an Internet point. In the far corner of San Rafael is a wonderful large church, placed high on the hill, it can be seen from miles around and from the terrace of the bar next door you can see almost the whole island - which is fantastic when lit up in the night time.

When eating out in San Rafael you're spoilt for choice with many restaurants, serving inexpensive hearty food to luxury a la carte or Moroccan dishes. In the night time there are a couple of cool, classy bars and just outside the village on the main road are the world famous clubs Privelige and Amnesia.

Around San Rafael is a number of Villas hidden away in the countryside, this spot is a favourite because of its good links to all areas of the island. The Ibiza villas you can find in this area can vary from luxury to more affordable and cheap holiday villas.

Our agency has a good range of holiday villas and other accommodation in this region.
